Tee Virus income opportunity?

Aside from the general goal of the site for the moment, one thing going on here is designers putting up things they like -- it's a given that the community won't always like them as well.

Since Tee Virus essentially has a print-on-demand system backing the site, I was wondering if it would be possible, as a service to the designers on the site, to offer them the opportunity to print the designs that are *rejected*...

Unless there's a layer of cost I'm not seeing, it seems to me that this is a perk for the designers, and an income stream for the site. Is there a downside? I mean, other than adding the mechanism to the site?

I know I'd use such a service.

There is already a site for this, but I have to say Tee Virus is more about community voting judging than profit at this point. There'll be time for that later after the brand grows.

Well, just thought I'd ask. If "We don't want to do that now, send em to cafepress" is your answer, that'll certainly address the rejected designer's needs. A bold move indeed for a fledgling brand.

This is a very interesting point you bring up, fyngyrz. Thanks for asking about it... To be honest, we have never even considered the idea that a designer might want to pay to have a design printed that's not available in the store. I wouldn't think too many people would be interested in doing something like that.

Without giving it much consideration, my initial response is, sure, we would be happy to consider it on a one-off basis. As you said there's no real downside except perhaps for the part where we'd need to put in the time and effort to create a software system to support it.

But even without such a system in place, I don't see why you couldn't just provide your design and payment (e.g., via PayPal) for us to custom create your order and send it on its way to you...

That seems eminently sensible to me. It's easy to not account for factors you can't see from "out here", but if it's a straightforward process on your end, there doesn't seem to really be a downside.

I've got a couple I'm interested in; as soon as my currently in-transit order arrives and I know how the sizes fit, I'll place an order for one or more of my "reject" designs.

Thanks for bringing this up. There's a couple of my "rejected" designs that I'd seriously consider buying if the opportunity was there.

If I'm going to create a design, chances are pretty high that I would buy/wear it. If for no other reason than to advertise it myself.
I can see it now, I'm at the bowling alley and someone says "I love that shirt! Where the hell did you get it?" And I'd have to tell them "Tee Virus Dot Com. It's the only place you can get it and I'm the only one in the world that owns one. Hurry, login right now on your phone and buy one!"
